RHS BRIDGEWATER PROGRAMME
Nature, Wellbeing and Community Connection
Helping people feel healthier, more connected, and supported through nature-based experiences.
Through our partnership with RHS Bridgewater, Recreate‑U delivers a range of flagship programmes that bring people together in a welcoming, supportive environment.
Our Recreate-U sessions at RHS Bridgewater offer welcoming, supportive spaces where people can connect with nature, build confidence, and improve their wellbeing.
Through gardening, outdoor activities, and shared experiences, participants are supported to feel calmer, more connected, and part of a positive inclusive community.
🌿 “I feel so much happier coming here. It’s given me something to look forward to each week.”
Each participant is supported on their own journey, with a personalised, bespoke approach that reflects their individual needs, interests and goals.
What to expect
Our sessions are relaxed, inclusive, and designed for people of all abilities and backgrounds.
Programmes take place in the serene natural surroundings of the RHS Garden Bridgewater, supporting participants to access the proven mental and physical health benefits of spending time outdoors in nature.
Activities include:
- Growing and caring for plants
- Learning about nature and the environment
- Gentle outdoor activity and fresh air
- Growing and tasting healthy food
- Creative and mindful activities
- Nature crafts
- Opportunities to meet others and build friendships
We create a safe, welcoming environment where everyone feels able to take part at their own pace.
A Supportive First Step
We understand that joining something new can feel daunting.
That’s why we:
- Work closely with Community Connectors and Social Prescribing Link Workers
- Provide supported referrals and introductions
- Offer small, friendly groups
- Ensure participants feel safe, welcome, and included from day one
Our approach helps people take that important first step into community activity with confidence.
Social Prescribing and NHS Alignment
This programme is part of a social prescribing pathway, supporting individuals to improve their health and wellbeing through non-clinical, community-based interventions.
Working in partnership with the NHS, Primary Care Networks (PCNs), and Community Connectors, we support people with a wide range of needs, including loneliness, low mood, and long-term conditions.
The programme aligns with key NHS priorities:
- Prevention and early intervention
- Reducing loneliness and social isolation
- Improving mental health and wellbeing
- Increasing physical activity
- Addressing wider determinants of health
Participants benefit from a person-centred approach, helping them build confidence, independence, and connection.
Impact and Social Value
Nature-based social prescribing programmes like this deliver meaningful, measurable outcomes.
Participants experience:
- Reduced loneliness and isolation

- Increased physical activity levels
- Greater confidence and social connection
- Development of practical life skills
Participants also:
- Learn how to grow fresh, healthy food
- Build knowledge of nutrition and healthy eating
- Engage in sustainable and organic practices
💬 “I’ve learnt so much here, and I feel more confident to try new things.”
This creates long-term social value, including:
- Improved mental health across communities
- Increased confidence and life opportunities
- Reduced risk of crisis and isolation
- Stronger, more connected local networks
Value for Partners and Health services
Recreate‑U’s programmes contribute to reducing pressure on NHS and local services by supporting people earlier and within the community.
Our delivery supports:
- Reduced demand on primary care services
- Increased engagement with community-based support
- Earlier identification of need
- Reduced escalation into specialist services
Our programmes are consistently highly in demand and often oversubscribed, demonstrating both the level of need and the value of this approach.
We receive strong feedback from Community Connectors, Social Prescribing Link Workers and partner organisations, who recognise the positive impact on individuals’ confidence, wellbeing and engagement.
Many participants continue their journey beyond initial sessions, with some progressing into volunteering opportunities with Recreate‑U, further building confidence, skills and connection within their community.
By providing early, preventative support, our programmes offer a cost-effective alternative to higher-cost clinical interventions while creating long-term, sustainable outcomes.
